The Asante Awards and Festival is a celebration of the pinnacles in creativity of peoples of African descent. It was formed out of the desire to celebrate the contributions that many local New Orleans artists have made (with little to no recognition) by acknowledging, giving thanks (Asante), and presenting them with awards. Much of the world dances to New Orleans' indigenous music, feasts on our recipes, and relishes in our art and culture; consequently, it is only befitting that we pay homage to those that have contributed to the preservation of our unique traditions and heritage. We also recognize the contributions that the African-American culture brings to the global community in many other academic disciplines. The Asante Awards and Festival seeks to place 'center stage' those who make us smile when encircled with their works!

The Asante Awards and Festival is dedicated to celebrating the contributions made by the African-American Culture In the areas of Jazz, Art, Movies, Music and the Spoken Word. Most important, the ordinary man or women, in their sevice help to make our lives better.
